CREDIT CARD FRAUD
ALERT
A new credit card scam is currently being worked throughout the Midwest region that we thought our
members should be aware of.
It starts with a phone call from a person stating they are from the Security and Fraud Department at Visa/MasterCard. They will tell you your account has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and
they are calling to verify.
You will then be asked if you made a purchase in the amount of $xxxx from an unknown
company based in another state.
When you say No, the caller states that they will be issuing a credit to your account, and that they have been watching this company for
some time.
They then try to verify your address by stating the credit will be sent to your home (they will give you your
address).
Once you verify the address, they then
claim to be starting a fraud investigation.
You are told if you have any questions to call the 800 number listed on your card
or 1-800-VISA and ask for Security.
You will then be given
a six digit Control Number to refer to.
The caller then says
he needs to verify you are in possession of your card.
You will be asked to
turn your card over.
He will then give you the first four numbers on the back of the card, and state the last three numbers are
security numbers for internet purchases.
You will be asked to read the last three numbers to verify you are in possession of
the card.
Once you give the numbers, he states they are correct and if you
have any other questions to call back.
They never ask for or tell you the account number, and within minutes, a purchase in the amount you were asked to verify shows up on your
account.
What this scam is after is the three
digits on the back of your card.
This is known as a CVV
code.
The real
Security and Fraud department will
never ask for
your account number or CVV number.
THEY ALREADY HAVE THIS
INFORMATION!
If this happens to you, report it to the Security Department at
1-800-325-3678, and file a police report.
If you have any questions, you can contact Karen in the Loan Department at 513-381-8600 or
1-800-265-4527.
REMEMBER, NEVER GIVE YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE TO UNKNOWN CALLERS.
